This weak in SNL – April 9, 2011

April 11, 2011

I skipped over the April 2nd SNL because it was so bad and, plus, Elton John just wants to be Helen Mirren anyway.  He looked at the cue cards so much that it was like watching a blind man who couldn’t figure out where the camera lens was.  But Helen Mirren’s episode was kinda solid.  She is not that good at American accents but it worked well because the SNL cast members are not that good at English accents.  It was bad accent heaven.  I especially liked this:

It combines my favorite things: Helen Mirren, boobs, Helen Mirren’s boobs, and faces in boobs. It also reminds me of this (but with more boobs, obviously):

yawn. i thought it was funny. i think that article misses the point. i felt like the sketch was satirizing the shit storm after, among other things, the new york mag interview, not contributing to it. it’s like when undercover brother came out and ebert thought it was unfunny because it was reinforcing black stereotypes, but roeper was like, uhhh naw dude, it’s making fun of those stereotypes. SNL sucks – don’t get me wrong – but i thought this sketch was ffuuuunnnnnnyyy and i think the author of that article needs to lighten the fuck up.

ok, ok. she doesn’t need to ‘lighten up’. i hate that phrase. but i do think she didn’t get it.

perhaps. it does seem like a lazy joke though…but of course, its SNL.
